Journey to the Celestial City #7. In our continuing look at John Bunyan’s “Pilgrim’s Progress,” today we find the man, Christian, along with his companion, Pliable, stuck in the Slough of Despond which drips with the filth of mankind’s wretchedness. Pliable is turned back as he thinks the way of salvation should be easier. And it’s not enough to be “pliable” to enter the kingdom of God. “Pliable” means that you are easily moved or shaped one way or another. This is good if Christ does the moving and shaping. It is not good if the world does the moving and shaping. “‘Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.'” (Jeremiah 18:6) More to come in the next blog post. Check back soon. (To read this entire blog post series, scroll down to “Pilgrim’s Progress Series” in the left sidebar.) pp 7
