Two Children in a Room

Journey to the Celestial City #14. In our continuing look at John Bunyan’s “Pilgrim’s Progress,” today we find the man, Christian, viewing the third sight of seven shown to him by the Interpreter. This third sight is of two little children sitting in a room. One is named “Passion” while the other is “Patience.” Passion can’t wait for his treasure and spends it all when it is laid before him. Patience can wait and does. And our bodily appetites gone astray are carnal and would have us give in to them and allow them to run rampant to the extent that we forfeit the next life. And God would have us put to death our sinful “passions.” “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body that you should obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.” (Romans 6:12-13) More to come in the next blog post.
