Journey to the Celestial City #17. In our continuing look at John Bunyan’s “Pilgrim’s Progress,” today we find the man, Christian, viewing the sixth sight of seven shown to him by the Interpreter. This sixth sight is of a pitiful man in an iron cage. Christian converses with the man who tells him of how he was once content on the road to the Celestial City. But that all changed when he turned himself over to insobriety and forsook the living Christ. And we, too, must not waver in our loyalty to Jesus lest we become subject to backsliding and once again trapped by unbelief and disregard for God. “For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open shame.” (Hebrews 6:4-6) More to come in the next blog post.
