Chamber of Peace

Journey to the Celestial City #28. In our continuing look at John Bunyan’s “Pilgrim’s Progress,” today we find the man, Christian, having enjoyed conversation until late evening with the good sisters, he is laid down to rest in the chamber called “Peace.” It’s window opens toward the east for the greeting of the sunrise by pilgrims. Christian sleeps soundly there and at morning light he awakes to sing: “Where am I now? Is this the love and care Of Jesus, for the men that pilgrims are, Thus to provide! that I should be forgiven, And dwell already the next door to heaven!” And our bedchamber is now “Peace” and it is our inheritance to awake each day to joy and hope with the Son rising in our hearts. To this end we can’t help but rejoice and be glad. Has it been your experience in Christ? “I will sing of the lovingkindness of the Lord forever; To all generations I will make known Thy faithfulness with my mouth.” (Psalm 89:1) More to come in the next blog post.
