How many of you go to church? Or you’ve been to church? Or been in church? In the past? Don’t be shy. A number of you.
TWITTER IN THE BIBLE
Did you know that twitter is in the Bible? And so twitter has been around for thousands of years. I’ll bet Biz and Ev didn’t know that.
I’m not the first person to discover this. But in… (verse?) it reads…
“And I twittered away my sorrow.”
To twitter in that verse is a form of expression. In that case, sorrow.
And that’s really what twittering (as I’ve heard some people/newbies refer to it) ~ tweeting! ~ is all about.
It’s a form of expression / expressing yourself in 140 characters or less.
Some people express happiness on twitter.
Some people express anger on twitter.
Some people express frustration on twitter.
Some people express despair on twitter.
Some people express hope on twitter.
I like to look at myself and sum up the way I use twitter as a preacher and religious minister: I express comfort on twitter.
And twitter offers the opportunity to connect with people, thousands and thousands of them, from all over the world in real (now!) time and meet their needs and offer comfort and give hope in 140 characters of less.
The first place people go to when they have questions in life? Anybody hazard a guess? It’s the internet. It used to be…?
7 POINTS?
1. There was the gal in San Francisco (@goingbyfaith) who was on twitter late at night. And she happened to see a tweet go by: Two Men With An Appointment With God.
Divine appointments. Christians believe that God sets up meetings with people ahead of time. They refer to them as “divine appointments.” This first example I’m referring to was a “divine appointment.” I believe it with all my heart. There are divine appointments on twitter, too.
2. There was the gentleman from Hawaii (@MarkFromHawaii) and he noticed a tweet: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” It was the first of Jesus’ last seven sayings from the cross. It was a teaching I’d put together in video blog form and sent it to twitter. And @MarkFromHawaii, a brother in the Lord, contacted me from the Big Island ~ I have the email here. He wanted to teach the entire series to his Sunday School class on the Big Island of Hawaii.
4. I also post the occasional “rant” and/or provocative tweet linking to a blog post. Like 10 people who won’t be in heaven after they die. Now that’s provocative. But it’s what a preacher is supposed to talk about.
