Noah’s Last Nail

“‘And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man.'” (Luke 17:26)

So what was it like on that last day prior to the Flood? (Genesis 6:1-8) I mean, Noah has been building a great, big boat (the Ark) for long, long time. It is the ultimate construction process lasting decades (10 x 10 equals 100 years to be exact). (Genesis 5:32; 7:6, 11)

But the last day comes. (Have you ever thought about it?) The last nail is pounded. The last laying down of the hammer. The last closing up shop. And Noah gets in to the Ark and his family with him and all the animals, too. (Remember, the Church sometimes smells, too, but it’s the only thing that floats!) And God closes Noah in. Seven more days pass. (Genesis 7:10) And that’s it.

The rains come.

And so what is it like? What is it like outside the Ark after Noah goes?

Paul offers an interesting answer that has been intriguing me for some time: “While they are saying,’Peace and safety!’ then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.” (1 Thessalonians 5:3)

My interpretation of that? It’s what they’re saying today. We don’t need God. We can do everything on our own. We can save the planet. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.

What are they saying today?

So what was the last conversation? I mean, there must have been people there.
