There is much to the argument that the 20th century was the worst known to man. I’m talking in terms of the horrors of war and more specifically, about the human death toll.
Drilling down to the worst war (WWII) with the highest number of deaths (50 million+) and then, drilling down even further to the Holocaust (where it is commonly accepted that 6 million Jews were killed), it becomes even more apparent.
With these things in mind I want to share an opinion. (Ready?) Here goes…
I’d like to suggest to you that we are enduring tribulation and have been living during a tribulation contrary to contemporary Pentecostal tradition and beliefs (Pentecostal Christians comprising only one part of present-day Evangelicals). This “tribulation” has been taking place since the 1st Century (quite frankly). Before you brand me a heretic thinking I believe things like the Rapture has already taken place (I don’t believe anything of the sort), I would like to highlight two passages of Scripture.
The first is found in the book of Revelation chapter 6….
When He broke the second seal, I heard the (second living creature saying, “Come.” And another, a red horse (War), went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him. (Revelation 6:3-4)
The second passage is Jesus’ words in John chapter 16…
“‘In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.’” (John 16:33b)
It will pale in comparison to what’s coming.
