Twitter is a social media network. Twitter is built around following people ~ and following back. And so I follow, follow and follow some more (and hope for reciprocation). It’s the best way to build your “followership” by the way. And that’s not a bad thing ~ to want more followers. (Especially if you’re a preacher. I’m trying to reach as many as I can with the love of Jesus after all.)
To give you a peek behind the scenes of @aheartforgod’s MO (method of operation), I recently started what I’m referring to as: “A campaign to reach 70,000 followers.” As of the initial draft of this post it’s 63,255. (Look at the Twitter counter at the top of this blog to see what the number is at currently. Am I moving in the right direction?)
And so we’re talking about Twitter and gaining followers. And how we do that I can only speak to out of my experience. In the infographic below I brought together what draws me to follow others and so I’m thinking it’s probably pretty close to what draws others to follow me.
I’ve purposely kept the list short so that you can quickly make changes to your own approach (if you decide to mimic me).
And so in the spirit of growing your audience, here are…
10 Ways to Get More Followers on Twitter:
1. Make sure your bio isn’t empty. Say something unique about yourself.
2. Keep it clean; don’t cuss.
3. (Three S’s) Don’t have a scary, scantilly clad or other kind of silly avatar (picture).
4. Engage / interact with your followers (respond to them).
5. Tweet regularly. (I recommend at least once a day to let people know you’re alive.)
6. Avoid asking for money (even as a non profit).
7. Add value to the community. (Tweet links to quality blog posts, real-time news items, etc.)
8. Connect with others in via chats. (Learn about hashtags.)
9. Use spell check (so we know you’re not a spam bot).
10. Follow back. (If you have thousands of followers, but only follow a few, it gives off the impression that it’s about “you.” That’s a #failwhale.)
