Lightning fast read meant to make you think…
10 Mistakes People Make with the Bible (plus 1 bonus):
1. Think they could never understand it. (John 16:13)
2. Don’t realize its different literary forms (prophecy, epistle, gospel, historical, etc).
3. Forget the importance of context (“the parts of a written or spoken statement that precede or follow a specific word or passage, usually influencing its meaning or effect”).
4. Read into it what they want it to say (eisegesis versus exegesis). (2 Peter 1:20-21)
5. Don’t pray for God to give them insight (which most often comes after much study ~ insight that is!).
6. Put it on the same level with other books when there is no other book in the whole world like it. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
7. Have never heard it is God’s love letter to the world and to them personally. (John 3:16)
8. Look to commentaries by men not realizing that the Bible is the best commentary on itself. (The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed; the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.)
9. Use it for ill-gotten, selfish (sordid) gain. (Titus 1:11)
10. Mix up figurative language with literal. (John 6:54)
BONUS Miss the the Bible’s central message (which is the revelation of Jesus Christ) for secondary issues. (Revelation 1:1)
