10 Mistakes People Make with Jealousy (plus 1 bonus):
1. Don’t realize jealousy finds its basis in the devil himself (Lucifer/Satan is the author of it). (Isaiah 14:12-14; James 3:14-15)
2. Overlook that jealousy is really a mark of coveting. (Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21)
3. Forget that jealousy is good when it’s for God and His purposes. (Numbers 25:10-13; John 2:13-22; Romans 11:14)
4. Allow jealousy to infect the church to its hurt. (1 Corinthians 3:3-5)
5. Have instigated church splits due to jealousy (they weren’t given power, high position or “recognized”). (James 3:16; 4:1-2; Acts 13:45)
6. Don’t understand that jealousy is really the root of almost every struggle/conflict/contention. (Acts 5:17; James 4:1-2)
7. Forget that jealousy is a mark of the flesh (sinful nature) that Jesus died on the cross to free us from. (Galatians 5:19-21; Romans 13:13)
8. Have allowed their family be torn apart because of jealousy. (Acts 7:9)
9. Don’t recognize that some “jealousy” is really an intuition that, indeed, a sin just may have taken place. (Numbers 5:11-29)
10. Harbor jealousy until it manifests itself tragically (rather than dealing with jealousy). (Genesis 4:8; Proverbs 6:34)
BONUS Misunderstand God as a “jealous God” (God’s “jealousy” is holy, good; there is no unrighteousness about it). (Exodus 20:5; 34:14; 2 Corinthians 11:2)
