“‘Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves purses which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near, nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.'” (Luke 12:33-34)
AN OVER RING
In the checkout line at the local grocery store, a clerk was ringing up my purchase and an over ring took place.
Lo an behold, she had entered my check incorrectly. Instead of $4.00, she had input $4,000.00. She quickly corrected her mistake and while doing so pointed out the record of my past 6 years of shopping there which the computers had stored.
“You’ve written 560 checks for over $20,000.00,” she noted.
I thought, “Wow. Now that’s a whole lot of money.”
And there are a number of other things I thought after I left the store like, “I never knew I had so much,” and, “I sure could use a little of that back,” and, “I wonder how Heaven’s record of my spending reads.”
WHERE IS YOUR MONEY GOING?
Surely God knows where our money is going, my friends. And ultimately we’ll get to see the record of it, I’m convinced, like I did my record at the grocery store.
I guess for some people it’ll be Saks Fifth Avenue or Macy’s or Walmart or somewhere else that’ll appear at the top of their record. While for others it’ll be more like Burger King or Round Table Pizza or Quince in San Francisco or some other restaurant.
For believers in Jesus Christ, it goes without saying where we ought to be investing our money.
That’s not to say that we shouldn’t buy food or other essential items.
But what it is to say is that each of us would do well to evaluate our spending habits from time to time and with the goal of making sure we have our priorities straight when it comes to finances and the kingdom of God.
Where a person invests his resources says a lot about his Christianity.
May the heavenly record read, “I love Jesus more than anything else!”
