Did You Really Find God?

The Good Shepherd“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you.” (John 15:16a; KJV)

I FOUND CHRIST

I’ve often heard people who get saved say (and new converts often say this), “I found Christ.”

And you may have heard a preacher or two (even me!) in the past upon hearing that statement come back with the comment, “I didn’t know He (Jesus) was lost!”

And we can chuckle at that response.

But I think there’s something to be said by it about our understanding (or lack therof) of the whole salvation process and transaction.

Is it really us “finding the Lord” or could it be that He’s really the One who does the finding?

PARABLES OF GOD FINDING US

I think the above first part of John 15:16 has much to say that it is the latter that’s true more than the former.

And when you take it into account, the parables of The Lost Sheep, The Lost Coin, The Lost (Prodigal) Son – after all, it was the shepherd that left the ninety-nine to go off and find the one stray; it was the woman who swept her house clean to find the missing penny; and though the prodigal son made the choice to return to his father after he “awoke to his senses” in the pig pen, it was the father’s love in the story and his boy’s knowledge of it that ultimately was the calling card I’m convinced.

And then what of the parables of The Pearl of Great Price (speaking of the Church) and The Hidden Treasure (speaking of Israel) which also highlight Jesus’ seeking after and doing the finding versus the other way around?

There’s ample Scriptural evidence of our Lord being the “First Cause” of our getting saved.

GOD WANTS US FOR HIS OWN

I don’t know about you, but it humbles me to think that the God of the universe has looked down upon this earth and taken note of me in my sinful state and decided, “I want him for my own,” and then made it happen.

“Amazing grace! how sweet the sound – That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost but now am FOUND, Was blind but now I see.”
