Pastor Mike here.
In the 1980s a terrorist blew up the Marine barracks in Beirut killing hundreds of Americans.
Days after the bombing a severely wounded, corporal Jeffrey Lee Nashton, with so many tubes running in and out of his body making him look more like a machine than a man a witness described, motioned for paper and pen on which he would write the words, “Semper Fi.”
It’s the Latin motto of the Marines which means “always faithful.”
And this is the God of the Bible.
This is the Christ of Scripture.
Jesus is forever faithful.
Faithfulness is about keeping your promises.
Faithfulness is about doing what you said you’d do.
It’s about never abandoning, never betraying, never forsaking, never turning your back on.
No matter what the trouble or cost, no matter what the sacrifice or pain, faithfulness means you’re committed and you can be counted on through thick and thin.
Moses could count on God. (Dueteronomy 32:4)
Israel could count on God. (Joshua 23:14b)
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego could count on God. (Daniel 3:25)
Jeremiah could count on God. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Jesus could count on God. (Acts 2:27)
The writer of Hebrews could count on God. (Hebrews 13:5c)
And you can count on God, too.
“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
“If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.” (2 Timothy 2:13)
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True.” (Revelation 19:11b)
