What Might Your Pastor Say If Jesus Asked About You?

Funeral with flowers on marbleMEMORY HONORED

To honor the memory of a member of our church long ago I shared an excerpt of my words from her funeral…

It hasn’t been an easy week for any of us who’ve come to know and love June. But I’ve got good news in the midst of our sadness and heavy hearts. Sure June has gone on, but she’s gone on to somewhere. She’s gone on to the land of the living where Jesus is. It’s a different place than the place she used to be – with her body that was so frail and the suffering she dealt with. No, the place where June’s gone is a place where there’s no more frailty or suffering – pain, sorrow, hurt, crying or tears. (Revelation 21:4) And that’s where June is right now – in Heaven!

WHAT MIGHT YOUR PASTOR SAY ABOUT YOU?

And I was this thinking, what if Jesus asked me, “Okay, Pastor. Tell me a little bit about this June Stevens.”

And I was thinking, what would I say?

“Well, Jesus, June was sure faithful in attending church.”

Did you know she used to apologize to me for not being able to be there – when she was sick and hurting and especially during her last days, she would apologize?

“Well, Jesus, she was sure faithful in attending church.”

“And furthermore, Jesus, June supported Your cause with her finances.”

Which was really quite something when you understand her little means.

“And even when she didn’t know how she was gonna pay for certain things,” and her and I talked about it, “June remained faithful, and God made a way for her where there seemed to be no way.”

“And furthermore, Jesus, June worshiped You with all her heart, too.”

I can still see her lifting up her hands like, “Come Bless The Lord,” the chorus says: “Lift up your hands, in the holy place, and bless the Lord, and bless the Lord.”

“And I could go on and on, Jesus, about June.”

FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN

And we could, my brothers and sisters, couldn’t we?

She was a faithful Christian and example to us all that we won’t soon forget.

We’ll miss you, June.

Until we meet again in the land of the living where Jesus is.
