When Your Sight Alone is Not Enough

Blue Eye“And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man (Elisha’s servant); and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.” (2 Kings 6:17)

KNOCK AT THE DOOR

My next door neighbor came knocking one night.

She’d just purchased a new monitor and couldn’t get the cord to plug into the back of her computer.

So she invited me over to see what I could do.

When I arrived I tried to connect the cord like she had, but it just wouldn’t go.

It was so odd.

It was the typical cord which are universally made.

It should have fit without any problem.

But it didn’t.

Could they have sent the wrong cord?

I continued to play with it for about five minutes or so longer.

IT DAWNED ON ME

And then it dawned on me.

I looked at the little pins that are part of the male side of the cord.

I looked very closely and noticed, “Could it be that one of them is bent?”

Sure enough, that was the problem.

I proceeded to bend that little bugger to its original position and, “Voila!,” the cord fit into the back of the computer with no problem this time!

It goes without saying that I rode off into the sunset my next door neighbor’s hero (maybe just a teeny bit!).

OUR SIGHT NOT ENOUGH

There are some things in life that we just need another set of eyes to help us see it.

Our sight alone is not enough.

It’s true in the physical realm.

And it’s true in the spiritual realm.

That’s why God gave us each other to help us see what we would otherwise miss.

Some of us can think that God isn’t with us or isn’t working in our midst or hearing our prayers, but then a fellow believer is able to come alongside and say, “Hey, wait a minute. What about this and that and this other thing?”

And we come to find out that God was really there all the time.

We just needed another set of eyes to point it out.

May God grant that each of us be strengthened to see with the eyes of faith what our brothers and sisters need our help to see.
