We’re moving on now to “Believe It Or Not – Unusual Stories Of The Bible” point number three.
And the verse I want you to see is Exodus chapter 32 and v. 20…
And he (Moses) took the calf (that’s the Golden Calf) which they (the Israelites) had made (and subsequently worshiped!) and [Moses] burned it with fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it over the surface of the water, and made the sons of Israel drink it. (Exodus 32:20)
And so now the “Believe It Or Not” point here is this: The Israelites once drank water filled with gold.
That is, Moses made the sons of Israel drink the water into which the gold that was once the Golden Calf was placed.
WHAT IT MEANS
Matthew Henry says this was a sign “that the backslider in heart should be filled with his own ways.”
Barnes writes the people were made to “swallow their own sin.”
Wesley adds the people were made to see that an idol is nothing.
And I’m just gonna leave it right there.
I think these commentators say it all.
