Do You Need A Course Correction?

LighthouseTHE BATTLESHIP AND THE LIGHTHOUSE

In chapter 16 of the book entitled, “In The Eye Of The Storm” by Max Lucado, the author shares what he refers to as, “Laws Of The Lighthouse.”

He uses the illustration of the battleship and the lighthouse that you may have heard before.

The captain of a ship sees a light nearing and thinks it’s another vessel approaching his.

And so he communicates for the vessel to change course lest his ship break it into pieces.

But then the response comes:

“I’m a lighthouse.”

Oops.

The illustration ends with the captain of the battleship changing his course lest he be the one broken up.

CONSIDER THE CRASH

And it’s true that from time to time each of us needs to consider the crash.

Even the best of Christians, if they’re not careful, can get off track in life.

And so evaluation is a good thing.

With this in mind, I offer you what Max Lucado says are “lights” he looks for and signals he heeds that keep him on the path the Lord would have him on.

It’s a good list to consider and use to evaluate where we’re at, too…

(1) Love God more than you fear hell.
(2) Once a week, let a child take you on a walk.
(3) Make major decisions in a cemetery.
(4) When no one is watching, live as if someone is.
(5) Succeed at home first.
(6) Don’t spend tomorrow’s money today.
(7) Pray twice as much as you fret.
(8) Listen twice as much as you speak.
(9) Only harbor a grudge when God does.
(10) Never outgrow your love of sunsets.
(11) Treat people like angels; you will meet some and help make some.
(12) ‘Tis wiser to err on the side of generosity than on the side of scrutiny.
(13) God has forgiven you; you’d be wise to do the same.
(14) When you can’t trace God’s hand, trust his heart.
(15) Toot your own horn and the notes will be flat.
(16) Don’t feel guilty for God’s goodness.
(17) The book of life is lived in chapters, so know your page number.
(18) Never let the important be the victim of the trivial.
(19) Live your liturgy.
