2ND HORSEMAN OF THE APOCALYPSE

I want to talk about the 2nd horseman of the Apocalypse today.

He’s written about in Revelation chapter 6, verse 3 and 4.

It reads…

3 When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!”

4 And out came another horse, bright red. Its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword.

And so we have the description of the 2nd horseman of the Apocalypse.

FOUR HORSEMEN HAVE BEEN RIDING THE ENTIRETY OF THE NEW TESTAMENT PERIOD

Now, as I’ve already said it in the 1st horsemen of the Apocalypse video, each of the four horsemen who correspond with the opening of the first four seals in Revelation chapter 6 have been riding, as it were, in judgment and wreaking havoc since the time of Christ’s ascension and will continue to do so up until the time of Christ’s second coming.

THE PROGRESSION OF THE FOUR HORSEMAN AS THEY’RE REVEALED

Now, it’s important to note the progression of the four horseman as they’re revealed.

They work in tandem.

The 1st horseman, symbolically representing Tyranny, is followed by the 2nd horseman and what he symbolically represents which is an outflow of Tyranny.

The 3rd horseman is an outflow of what the 2nd horseman symbolically represents.

And the 4th horseman, likewise, is an outflow of what the the 3rd horseman symbolically represents.

And so all the horsemen are linked together.

In particular, the 2nd horseman is described as riding a bright red horse.

He’s permitted to take peace from the earth, so that people should slay one another, and he’s given a great sword.

INTERPRETATION OF THE 2ND HORSEMAN OF THE APOCALYPSE

Historically, the 2nd horseman has stood symbolically to represent war.

And war typically is an outflow of Tyranny.

But more than just war, the 2nd horseman symbolically represents any bloodshed, where man slaughters his fellow man.

DR. LOUIS BRIGHTON ON THE 2ND HORSEMAN OF THE APOCALYPSE

In his popular commentary on the Book of Revelation, Dr. Louis Brighton says it this way…

“Clearly the rider of the red horse symbolizes warfare, but in addition he represents any sort of unlawful killing and murder.” (pg. 115)

Dr. Brighton goes on…

“Throughout the time period covered by the prophetic message of Revelation, from the victory of the Lord Christ (on the cross) up to his second coming, peace and tranquility will be the exception. The general rule will be wars and rumors of war, violence, murders, insurrections, and the like (see Mk 13:7-9).” (pg. 115)

Dr. Brighton concludes…

“It is for this reason that Paul urged his fellow Christians to pray for peace and for an orderly and quiet life (1 Tim 2:1-2), for he knew that only God could grant such.” (pg. 115)

WHO THE 2ND HORSEMAN OF THE APOCALYPSE IS

And so we have the 2nd horseman of the Apocalypse.

He’s an outflow of the 1st horseman, Tyranny.

He symbolizes war, man slaughtering his fellow man, any sort of unlawful killing and murder.
