THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

I want to talk to you about the second coming of Christ today.

THREE SECOND COMINGS?

Pre-tribulational (dispensational) Premillennialism falsely promotes three different second comings of Christ – one of them a supposed ‘secret rapture.’

This ‘secret rapture’ idea crept in through John Darby, Hal Lindsey and Tim LaHaye especially.

The other two second comings of Pre-tribulational (dispensational) Premillennialism include a second coming to establish a Millennium and then a second coming (which is really a third!) – on Judgment Day.

THE BIBLE TEACHES ONLY ONE SECOND COMING

In direct contrast to what Pre-tribulational (dispensational) Premillennialism promotes, the historic Christian Church has always held to only one second coming of Christ as the Bible teaches.

Titus 2:13 reads…

“[W]aiting for our blessed hope, the appearing (not appearings!) of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Acts 1:9-11 adds…

9 And when he (Jesus) had said these things, as they (the disciples) were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.

10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men (angels) stood by them in white robes,

11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

Now I guess the two angels could have mentioned three second comings including a ‘secret rapture,’ and then gone on from there.

But they didn’t.

Because there aren’t three different second comings of Christ.

There is only one.

MORE BIBLE VERSES ABOUT THE SECOND COMING

So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. (Hebrews 9:28)

Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. (Revelation 1:7)

“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” (Matthew 25:13)
